Technology

One integrated system, engineered for cost competitiveness.

Established industrial technologies, integrated into a single optimised process that supplies most of its own power and hydrogen.

The innovation

Established technologies. One integrated process.

Each technology is proven on its own. Avioxx connects them so that syngas, power, hydrogen and oxygen flow between them, reducing the energy and hydrogen the plant must buy in.

The process

Five steps, one system.

  1. Feedstock preparation

Non-recyclable household and commercial waste is prepared as refuse-derived fuel.

  2. Gasification

High-temperature gasification turns the waste into syngas, using oxygen from on-site electrolysis.

  3. Syngas conditioning

Contaminants are removed to protect catalysts and fuel cells.

  4. Power and hydrogen

Fuel cells generate electricity from syngas; electrolysis produces hydrogen and oxygen.

  5. Synthesis and upgrading

Fischer–Tropsch synthesis and upgrading produce synthetic paraffinic kerosene.

Project Catalyst

Where the technology is developed and tested.

Our Runcorn pilot runs Avioxx-designed Fischer–Tropsch reactors, fuel upgrading and fuel-cell testing on synthesised and waste-derived syngas. Its results feed directly into the engineering of Genesis.

Maturity

From proven components to industrial demonstration.

  1. Industrial components

    Established technologies already operating commercially.

  2. Integrated process

Avioxx’s innovation, with individual processes tested at Runcorn.

  3. Industrial demonstration

Genesis will demonstrate the integrated process at industrial scale.

Intellectual property

Protecting the integration.

Avioxx’s proprietary integrated technology platform is supported by a portfolio of UK, European and international patent applications, alongside specialist engineering know-how and process optimisation expertise.

Specialist suppliers provide the gasifiers, fuel cells, electrolysers and reactors. Our patent applications cover how they are configured, balanced and controlled as one system, building on Dr Mike Hancock’s syngas fuel-cell patent, granted in 2011.
